Goodwill Learning Academy Math Teacher

Per Diem Math Teacher

Salary Range: $25.00 To $30.00 Hourly

The Goodwill Learning Academy (GLA) is located in Rochester, New York on the main campus of The Goodwill of the Finger Lakes.  We offer free education services to adults, including the National External Diploma Program (NEDP).  The NEDP is a comprehensive path to earning the NYS High School Equivalency Diploma.  Students once qualified for the NEDP work with the GLA staff to meet their goal of finishing their High School education.  

General Job Summary:  

The ideal candidate will be able to successfully teach Life Skills Math to adults. Topics include, but are not limited to, word problems, geometry, measurements, percents, integers, and fractions.  The Life Skills Math Curriculum is designed to help students meet the required testing for NEDP enrollment.  This is a part-time position offering twelve hours of work per week, for seven-week blocks, with four blocks offered each year. Each lesson lasts two hours, with an additional hour for planning. All lessons take place at the Goodwill Learning Academy. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Deliver engaging, interactive Math lessons aligned with the Life Skills Math Curriculum
  • Provide instruction four times per week in three-hour sessions (2 hours teaching/1 hour planning)
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of different adult learners 
  • Work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Track student progress and provide feedback to support their success. 
  • Collaborate with the GLA team to ensure a positive learning experience. 

Qualifications:  

  • BA/BS in Education, Mathematics, or a related field (MS/MA preferred). 
  • Experience teaching math at the 6th-8th grade level, with a focus on life skills or adult education preferred. 
  • Familiarity with the National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is a plus. 
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills. 
  • Ability to work with diverse adult learners, including students from covered populations.
